McDonald’s Now Accepts Visa payWave and Offers Consumers an Easier, Faster and More Convenient Way to Pay
02/25/2015
Singapore - McDonald’s customers can now experience an easier, faster and more convenient way to pay for their meals with Visa payWave contactless payments accepted at over 120 McDonald’s® restaurants across Singapore.
Visa payWave transactions already account for more than one in ten face-to-face Visa transactions for McDonald’s in the short time since the roll-out began in December last year.
Ms Ooi Huey Tyng, Visa Country Manager for Singapore and Brunei, said, “Visa is proud to have McDonald’s, one of the largest quick service restaurant chains in the country onboard as one of our Visa payWave merchants. Making payments through Visa payWave is easier and faster than cash, and McDonald’s customers can now have a better payment experience. With the Visa payWave terminals being installed at the counters, we believe that this will also increase productivity as it allows the service staff to attend to the next customer within a shorter time frame, which is crucial especially during peak hours for a quick service restaurant.”
Visa payWave reduces queues and consumers simply need to wave and go, completing their transactions within a few seconds. They no longer have to wait for change or fumble for cash and coins when purchasing McDonald’s meals.
Singapore is ranked second in the world for Visa contactless payments and Visa payWave transactions have been growing exponentially, with over 70 percent year-on-year growth as of September 2014. Visa payWave transactions also account for almost one in four Visa face-to-face transactions in Singapore.
“At McDonald’s, we are all about bringing simple, easy enjoyment to our customers. This new payment option provides both convenience and speed that we believe will enhance the overall experience for our customers in our restaurants,” said Carolyn Khiu, Director, Corporate Communications, eCommerce & Customer Relations for McDonald’s Singapore.
With Visa payWave, the payment card does not need to be swiped by the cashier, and no signature or PIN (Personal Identification Number) is required for purchases under SGD$100, which makes it a faster way to pay while still being a secure Visa transaction.
Visa payWave is a contactless payment technology that is found on Visa cards bearing the symbol. Visa payWave transactions are as secure as other Visa chip card transactions and carry the same multiple layers of security. In addition, with Visa payWave, the card never leaves a card holder’s hand, which reduces the risk of fraud.
