Visa enters second year of partnership with OCBC Bank, NTUC FairPrice and NTUC Link to support underprivileged families
08/27/2016
Visa, along with partners OCBC Bank, NTUC FairPrice and NTUC Link held their second annual Food from the Heart programme today, providing 625 families with S$50,000 worth of groceries and daily necessities.
The event commenced on 27 August as 80 families, joined by more than 40 volunteers from Visa, OCBC Bank, NTUC Link and NTUC FairPrice, did their grocery shopping at the FairPrice Xtra outlet at Changi Business Park. Each family was given NTUC FairPrice vouchers worth S$80 and volunteers assisted families and advised them how to make wise budgeting decisions when doing their shopping.
Ms. Ooi Huey Tyng, Visa Country Manager for Singapore and Brunei, said, “For the second year running, Visa is honored to be launching this programme in support of Food from the Heart with our partners. This year, we are committing more money to help more beneficiaries. Apart from the monetary contribution, we are also working directly with these families, providing guidance on financial literacy and ways to make the most out grocery budgets. Visa and its employees are deeply committed to supporting the communities in which we live, work and conduct business. This programme is our way of making a meaningful contribution to the lives of those less fortunate and giving back to the community.”
Mr Ching Wei Hong, Chief Operating Officer, OCBC Bank, said, “Building a culture that believes in a sustainable contribution and support to the society is what we, as individuals and as an organisation, hold onto strongly. We want to step forward and share our time with our community. It is our privilege to be able to collaborate with our trusted and valued partners – NTUC FairPrice, NTUC Link and Visa, for the second year running. Through this, we hope to make a positive impact, benefiting the lives of these families and overall, building stronger community bonds.”
Mr Seah Kian Peng, CEO of NTUC FairPrice, said, “FairPrice embraces the values of Doing Good and giving back to the community as part of our corporate philosophy and social mission. Being able to work together with our strategic partners to bring joy and relief to the less fortunate demonstrates how we can collectively do our part and make lives better for all.”
“NTUC Link’s core mission is to serve and support the working families of Singapore. We are delighted to have the opportunity through Food from the Heart, to make a contribution to families in need. Grateful for our nation’s 50 years of progress that has greatly enriched so many lives, we are ever-ready to open our hearts to help and serve those in our community that have been less fortunate”, concluded Mr Tony Tan, CEO of NTUC Link.
Mr Anson Quek, Executive Director, Food from the Heart (FFTH), said, "We are so grateful to have the support of Visa, NTUC FairPrice, NTUC Link and OCBC. About 105,000 HDB households in Singapore have a household income of less than $1,500 each month. For these families, skipping meals or eating lower nutritional food is common as they struggle to pay other utilities, medical and school expenses. Currently FFTH supports more than 25,000 people which is a long way from reaching out to all who need our help but we are very encouraged by the support of our partners and their contributions mean so much to the beneficiaries.”
